So I finally broke down and bought a PS3 exclusive. What can I say? I am tired of staring at my PS3 and not being able to play any games on it because I don't own any. I went to Electronics Boutique and picked up Resistance: Fall of Man. I had heard a lot of great things about it, plus it had a score of 86/100 on metacritic.com.
What a disappointment. This is one of the most unexciting FPSs I've played in quite a while.
While the graphics are definitely decent, there is just not much "flair" to Resistance.
The feeling I kept getting while playing through the first several levels was "This game is like Halo meets Call of Duty 4, except not nearly as good, or entertaining as either."
The storyline has potential, but the characters (including your own) are so flat that you end up not giving a rat's ass about any of them.
I don't know. I LOVE FPSs but I don't love Resistance. Killzone 2 holds a lot of promise, but until then it is back to the 360 for quality gaming.

Why on earth are you playing a FPS game on a console? If you really do love fps games, then you really should be just playing them on a pc. Resistance is annoying to play simply because the controller is nowhere as accurate as using a keyboard and mouse.

I like playing shooters with a controller. I like playing with keyboard and mouse. I don't really prefer one over the other, though I play more shooters on console because I'm too cheap to buy/build a gaming PC.
I didn't care for the Resistance demo. Resistance 2 looks a bit better, as does Killzone 2. For now, you can get better shooters on 360. Not sure why.

How does the controller have anything to do with his points?

He said it scored well, yet did not excite him. Graphics were par at best, it was a boring mix of Halo and CoD4, and the story was flat. Each of those complaints sounds pretty independent of the controller to me.

Ah those kind of points, lol. :jiggy:
I find it really hard to enjoy any kind of FPS game with a controller. The slow turning, the inaccurate and frustrating aiming, and if you increase the sensitivity to make it faster the aiming gets worse. You can buy the FragFX for PS3 but it also makes Resistance tough to play and still doesn't feel like a real mouse should. If the FragFX isn't set right, it can make the aiming go haywire!
I would rather just go on a PC and Play Call of Duty 4 or some shooting aliens game. I found it interesting that Crysis has an option to connect a controller to the PC. My mouth dropped when I read that! :Randy-git:
I just think that if you really love fps games, you shouldn't be playing them on a console. You get shafted in every department- graphics, controllers, framerate, draw distance, everything that really shines on a PC.

I play FPSs wherever I can get them. In most cases I enjoy them on PC more than consoles, but occasionally a really solid game is only available on a console, so I play it on a console.
I used to have the same attitude as you about FPS gaming on PC vs. console. Then I played enough on consoles to get good at it. Now I enjoy both. I recommend lthat you learn to play FPSs on consoles. You will open up more options that way. Refusing to learn console control for FPSs, based on some old school stubbornness, only hurts you in the end because you limit your options.
I would argue that if you really LOVE FPSs, then you will learn to play them on ALL platforms, so that you have the maximum number of options.

I fail to see how Too Human (3rd person action RPG) or Viva Pinata (sim/god game) would act as suitable alternatives for a mediocre FPS. Instead I will continue to play Call Of Duty 4 on my 360, which is a much better game by far, plus I can use the AWESOME 360 controller. I wish SONY would drop their outdated form factor for their DualShock and move on to a more ergonomic design. It would probably make gaming on the PS3 a little more tolerable. Hopefully some improved 3rd party controllers will come out before Killzone 2 drops, because I really look forward to that game. It was a lot of fun to play at E3 this year.
