I have a 80 gig Maxtor HDD on my PS2 which cost me 30$ and functions pretty well. MS is just playing tricks so people that dont know crap go out and buy the core system so they can later buy all their expensive crap.
I just don't see it the same way, dude. I mean, we all know that Microsoft is losing something like $50-$75 for every system they sell, so you already know you're getting the machine below cost. How is that a ripoff? You can't just buy any old hard drive and slap it in (it's self-enclosed, has pre-installed software on it, and is removable unlike other hard drives out there except external USB ones) so what's the big deal?

Unless they turn a 360 into a TiVo, why do you need more than 20 GB?
